Anthem “Adopts” the Norfolk Ronald McDonald House for Year-long Giving Partnership
Anthem believes strongly in giving back to the communities, especially where its associates live and work. . That’s why on October 30, 2015, Jeff Schrecengost, Vice President of Information Technology (IT) for Anthem’s Government Business Division (GBD), announced his team’s first-ever “Adopt-a-Charity” (AAC) partnership with the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Anthem GBD IT is partnering with four Ronald McDonald House chapters across the country, based on where the largest number of its associates are located, and the House in Norfolk, VA is one of them! Anthem believes that their mission to “transform health care with trusted and caring solutions” aligns perfectly with the caring support that the Ronald McDonald House provides to families of children undergoing treatment for serious illness or injury. An AAC spokesperson shared, “The Ronald McDonald House Charities stand firm on the simple premise that when a family is focused on the health of their child, nothing else should matter – not where they can afford to stay or where and how they will get their next meal. They provide an important support to families at a traumatic time in their lives and we can show our caring through partnering with them to support their mission.”
Anthem’s AAC initiative recognizes that giving is personal and is designed to provide associates with options for their participation whether it be the gift of time or money. Associates can get involved in events at the House or in support of the House, or they can work individually, or as teams, to create their own unique volunteer experience. Through Anthem Foundation’s Associate Community Engagement Programs, their efforts are augmented. The Foundation matches associate donations at 50 cents on the dollar, and provides Dollars for Doers grants in exchange for associates’ volunteer hours.
In December, Anthem GBD IT held a Holiday Giving event for the Norfolk Ronald McDonald House and collected $795 in Gift Card donations and 201 items to donate to the House from our Wish List – items included toys, diapers, clothes, cleaning products, food, blankets, and hygiene products!
Anthem GBD IT employees were joined by Elyse Brown, Director of the Norfolk Ronald McDonald House, and Tim Hewitt, Board Chair for the Norfolk Ronald McDonald House at a meeting on October 30,, 2015 where the partnership was announced. Employees were able to hear first-hand about the many ways in which their caring will make a meaningful impact on children and families at the Ronald McDonald House. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room when Tim shared his personal connection with the Ronald McDonald House and how the generous support of individuals and companies, like Anthem, makes an important difference in the lives of children and families at a time of great need.
This is an exciting partnership between Anthem and the Norfolk Ronald McDonald House and we look forward to the year ahead!
